Write a word 2-3 at most ( your idea ). |

Motives - ( Motif ): Is a group of notes used to build a melody |

Use some notes to say what you wrote down. |
|

Build on it to create a phrase. |
|
4. |
Build on the phrase to create a sentence. This would be your melody. |

Guidelines for Developing Phrases Into Melodies |
|

|
|

Repeat it. |
|
2. |
Transpose it. |
|
3. |
Add a subsection of the original phrase. |
|
4. |
Repeat the phrase with altered rhythm. |
|
5. |
Repeat the rhythm or basic structure but alter the intervals. |
|
6. |
Invert or reverse the original phrase. |
|
7. |
Do something different. ( Louder or Softer, Shorter or Longer, Faster or Slower, Higher or Lower ) this is called a "Bridge" |
