Writing Melodies  
   
1.
Write a word 2-3 at most ( your idea ).  
   
Motives - ( Motif ): Is a group of notes used to build a melody

Use some notes to say what you wrote down.

Build on it to create a phrase.

 
4.
Build on the phrase to create a sentence. This would be your melody.  
   
Guidelines for Developing Phrases Into Melodies  
   
1.
Repeat it.  
2.
Transpose it.  
3.
Add a subsection of the original phrase.  
4.
Repeat the phrase with altered rhythm.  
5.
Repeat the rhythm or basic structure but alter the intervals.  
6.
Invert or reverse the original phrase.  
7.
Do something different. ( Louder or Softer, Shorter or Longer, Faster or Slower, Higher or Lower ) this is called a "Bridge"  
Cadence is the Ending

Hook  
   
A memorable section that captures the listeners interest. This can be just about anywhere in the form of the song.  
Although, the sooner you have it the more likely the listener will listen to the whole song or remember it.
